Victor Becali has revealed that his most difficult transfer involves Christian Chivu. Becali is the agent of Christian Chivu and he said that his transfer from AS Roma to fellow Italian Serie A outfit Inter Milan is the most difficult transfer he has conducted.
Becali talked about his most difficult transfer in a chat with Romanian news outlet Pro Sports a few years ago.
Inter Milan made a big transfer statement when they signed Christian Chivufrom AS Roma in the summer of 2007. The Nerazzuri paid around €16m to secure his signature.Chivu spent seven years in the Inter Milan first team before calling time on his career. He ventured into coaching immediately after his retirement. Chivu is now a youth team coach at Inter Milan.
Becali also revealed during the aforementioned news outlet that several teams wanted to sign Christian Chivu before he left Roma to sign for Inter. According to him, the transfer from Roma to Inter was difficult because there were problems between the two Italian teams. He said there were offers from the Spanish La Liga duo of Real Madrid and Barcelona as Roma preferred to send Chivuabroad rather than Inter Milan. In the end, the Nerazzuri were able to pull off the transfer and the player went on to become a legend at the San Siro.
At Inter Milan, Chivu played 169 games in all competitions until he retired in 2014. He had an attacking return of three goals and seven assists in those games.
Chivu was part of the Inter Milan team that won an unprecedented treble at the end of the 2009/10 season. The Nerazzuri won three major trophies namely the Italian Serie A, the Coppa Italia and the Champions League in a single season. Chivu played as a left-back and as a centre back during his time at Inter Milan.
