SNEIJDER MOVES ON

The Italian club Inter Milan recently sold the star midfielder Wesley Sneijder after the Dutchman failed to agree new terms with the club. The 28-year-old was an instrumental part of the 2010 success for the club, but he has not been given the great departure everyone would have been hoping. Sneijder has now completed a move to the Turkish club Galatasaray. He was on a contract worth around € 6 million per season, and it is understood that Inter Milan wanted him to agree a contract for around € 4 million per season. Due to his refusal to sign this new contract, the club decided to remove him from first-team action immediately.

Left with no other option, it is thought that Inter Milan accepted a fee of around £ 8 million for the midfielder. The defender Cristian Chivu has said that he will not criticise the midfielder for not accepting a lower pay scale. Yet, the Romanian has said that it is undoubtedly a sensitive issue. He has said that it is extremely hard for some players to switch from a contract earning a higher amount of money to one that offers them a lower level of pay. The Inter Milan manager Andrea Stramaccioni, meanwhile, praised the former midfielder for his contribution to the team.

“It is a sensitive issue. Some players were offered a contract on a certain amount of money and so it is hard for them to switch to a contract running for the same period but with the amount reduced. I don’t judge people in this situation. People react differently to these situations,” said Cristian Chivu. “I thank Sneijder for what he gave me on the pitch. I hope the rest of his career goes very well for him,” said the Inter Milan manager Andrea Stramaccioni.

Will Chivu ever play in the Premier League?

What if Cristian Chivu played for Liverpool in the Barclays Premier League when the English team tried to sign him in 2011? What would be the odds of signing the Romanian star? These questions sprung up as some Italian Serie A stars are rumoured to be bound for the EPL.

Among them is his Internazionale teammate Wesley Sneijder. Chivu will be a big catch for any club in Europe. However, getting his services will be difficult. Chivu is a person known for his loyalty to his mother club. He once stated that he wants to retire as an Interista. Inter Milan rewarded his loyalty by offering him three more years on his contract. Although three years is not that long in football nowadays. If Liverpool or any other European clubs are still interested in signing him, they would have to wait until 2015 before his contract ends.
